With 50 years combined experience in the Australian Energy Market, Watt Utilities is focused on cost reduction and reducing businesses demand for energy which has a positive impact on the environment. With large and small clients including government departments, our areas of expertise include cost reduction (by getting better commercial electricity prices as well as being more efficient with energy for business), data analysis and efficiencies in the Australian Energy and Communications Markets. Our key difference to our competitors is our team, it has very specialised skills in the energy market yet our key focus is a hands on approach with ongoing support.
Dr Keith Watts - Managing Director
PhD (Electrical Engineering and Management, Qld), MBA (Deakin), BE (Elec) Qld
A professional engineer and manager, with an MBA, and a PhD in the fields of management and electrical engineering awarded in 1996 by the University of Queensland, Dr Watts' PhD research was into the performance of the electricity distribution utilities in Queensland. Dr Watts has an MBA degree from Deakin University and a Bachelor of Engineering degree with honours in the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, University of Queensland. Dr Watts is also a licenced electrical fitter and electrical mechanic, Queensland.
Dr Watts has previously held various engineering positions and been general manager of two of the electricity boards in Queensland. He has worked in the Queensland Public Service as head of corporate services in two Queensland Government departments and as a senior executive in the Queensland Electricity Reform Unit and the Office of Energy, Queensland Treasury. Dr Watts is experienced in electricity reform issues associated with contestability in electricity supply.
Dr Watts provides to our clients his expertise in full retail competition, negotiating electricity contracts and market contract analysis, resolving network tariff issues , tariff checks, and on-supply arrangements for commercial buildings and bodies corporate.
Michael Newton - Director
BBus, Marketing & Management (Griffith University)
Michael started his career in the Army then moved into the Telecommunications industry where he held positions as a state and corporate manager in Queensland. He has over 10 years experience in the telecommunications industry. He has a Bachelor of Business from Griffith University majoring in marketing and management, 2xCert IV in Business Management and Cert II in Sustainable Energy. He is also a Director of Office Advisors which is a consulting company for new technology, smart card and telecommunications. He has developed sales and marketing strategies, built and negotiated channel networks and developed and marketed products and services. He also has had extensive experience in account management and the implementation and management of complex projects.
Gina Winsor - Operations Manager
Gina joined Watt Utilities in 2009. She has been involved in the growth of Watt Utilities originally employed to assist in the implementation of our CRM. She now runs and administers our tender process and account management. Her experience as a Business Operations Manager at an IT company was essential in navigating the successful implementation of our intellectual property for Tenders and Customer Account management. Gina also has very strong experience in administration. Her previous roles have included working as Executive Assistant to the CFO of Star City Casino & CEO of the Casino Division of TABCORP.
Andrea Newton - Finance Manager
Andrea has a strong financial, legal and administration background. Her career started in legal administration from that foundation she has worked in the Hospitality, Events and Charity sectors at executive levels in Australia and overseas. Andy has assisted in running major national events with ASX listed clients and major charities. She has run the finances and administration for her own Family Business for the last 8 years and now runs and administers the financial control for Watt Utilities.
Simone Reid - Finance / Operations
Simone joined our team in January 2011. Her experience and entrepreneurial skills bring a wealth of knowledge in finance, administration and management. Simone has run and managed medical practices and her own business leading a team of Sales Representatives gaining Top 10 National Recognition within her industry. She has experience in the HVAC industry and has implemented finance systems and processes in Growth Companies.
James Cooper - Project Manager
James Cooper has a long history of senior management with the commercial & not for profit sectors. His understanding of both business operations & sales coupled with committee processes make him an ideal liaison point for both procurement managers & body corporate secretariats. He has overseen growth within all the businesses he has lead & is a very effective communicator & sales professional. As a former professional sportsman he has developed a passion to achieve both for himself & those around him & as such is always client focused & results orientated.
